I had a halfords battery fitted about 2 years ago and recently had to call out the rac, they have advise the battery is totally dead, so fair enough, it has 4 year warentee, just been up to halfords, very helpfull but were unable to get the bracket off. The bolts were just spinning and not coming out. So had the leave without the new battery. Can anyone suggest how to get the bracket out? (I spoke to muncher and he advised i will probably need to cut the bolts off? what would happen then to the back of the bolt and how would i secure new bolts? Cheers

you would need to cut the heads off and then once the battery bracket is removed cut the remains off flush with the chassis, they should then just push out. Next job is to fit some new 'nutserts' with the correct tool, add some grease and fit some new bolts thumbsup

They would fall out into the channel for the steering rack. From there they would eventually fall out completely and dissappear. Might be worth trying to tighten the bolts first. If they tighten up then that will tighten the rivnuts and then they should come out. However, if they just spin then leave it. Don't be afraid of doing rivnuts yourself if you can borrow the tool, but don't give it to anyone but a VX/Elise/kitcar specialist to do for you.

If they are rivnuts try and get a screw driver behind the bolt head and prize it it might tighten the rivbolt up enough to get bolt out thumbsup Goodluck

The handle bit on mine broke, I put a t-piece on the end of the cable so that I could pull the cable more easily. Its a bit harder to pull on as you don't get the same leverage as the original handle gives you but it does the trick. I had the same thing with the battery bracket, I used a Dremel with a flexy attachment to cut the heads off the bolts and then put in new threaded rivet thingies.

I really feel for you Joe. Sometimes it feels like nothing on these cars is simple. Stick with it and just try to remember sunny weather and roof-off driving thumbsup I had an absolute nightmare getting my bracket off. Took me hours and fcuked my hands right up!
