I have removed my plastic V.

I am interested in fitting a Steinmetz (or similar) grill now the dreaded V is gone.

Does anyone have any clear pictures of the Steinmetz or similar??

Above is picture of V removal. Basically the V is attached by self tapping screws that screw into the V from behind the grill. Therefore the only options are to remove the clam and remove the screws or destroy the grill so the screws do not have anything to screw into.

My approach was to attack the V with a hole saw to remove the majority of the material. Then I removed the last parts of plastic that were still attached to the retaining screws. I removed the last of the plastic with the side cutters. The retaining screws fell behind the grill and the virgin grill was revealed.

Having been down to BOT for sevice and MOT I find that the last owner who I thought had done nothing to the car has infact fitted one of these (or a copy as the Steinmetz badge is missing) and also discovered he'd uprated the front and rear engine mounts. Shame he didn't to the left and right as they were completely fooked!

You dont uprate the left and right mounts. Just replace when they go, like yours have. thumbsup They should now last longer with the powerflex inserts you have.

Well that's a bit extreme but not far from the truth  Checked most of the main things and it's sound (apart from the sied engine mounts!) but bought it from a dealer who didnt have much of a clue. To be fair though I've never taken the undertrays off before so never knew about the uprated engine mounts :)

Buy a Steinmetz replica from Sam (SPLAM on the forum) and save youself a fortune. The Steinmetz is about £400 and Sam's replica is £155. Here's a pic of Sam's just fitted 4 weeks ago. And you don't have to remove the front clam to fit which you do with the Steinmetz. I've also just added VX220 and Turbo badges to his grille to give it a slightly different look.

Mmm that's why I wrote, "or similar". I was looking for the general Steinmetz style. Yeah I think I'll go for the SPLAM style. I have not seen a clear picture of the splam grill previously. I was hoping it looked half as good as your picture!! Many thanks for your reply. One question though, how did fitting go???? Best regards, Paul

You're very welcome. chinky chinky

The quality of Sam's grille really is excellent. Can't speak highly enough of it. Imnotworthy

I had my front end re-sprayed at the same time so the body-shop fitted the grille. But they're a piece of p*ss apparently to fit. They attach to the original VX mesh grill using a rubber type rawl nut that pushes through the original grille and then, using a small allen key, tightens up and holds it in place.

Here's a better picture of the attachments.
