only other suggestions are injector, egr valve or cam position sensor.
hmm, i was wondering about the injectors as when i give it some revs thats when it sounds and feels like a bag of sh!t, but when i take my foot off the accelerator and the revs drop the engine is smooth until it drops to the idle speed and then comes back again. Would this indicate faulty / blocked injectors?

You all sorted now then matey?
I just got a couple of new codes p0300 and p1514 not sure but think they may have been produced when i started the engine with the egr valve removed. I'm wondering whether it could be my egr valve now as when i have it hooked up to opcom and look at the measuring blocks it says EGR Valve - Inactive (obviously i had re-connected it by then). I would have thought it should be active when the engine is running!?
Not really sorted - need to get hold of a new injector yet, but the old one's are out.
EGR would cause rough idle but don't think it'd cause a misfire. Once mine's up and running you can try my EGR valve.
