The cylinder needs 3 things Air fuel and spark
Compression test is the next thing to do.
Try swapping your spark plugs between cylinders too to see if the fault follows that.

I've had the plugs out to clean them and didn't pay any attention to which one went back where so think it's unlikely the same one went back in cylinder 3, but worth a go i suppose and then i'll see about a compression test.

All fixed now took 3 coilpacks and a compression check to realise it was none of those and it was a duff injector. When i had it for the compression test we noticed cylinder 1 was wet. When i switched injector 1 to another cylinder it dried up and the problem followed the injector. So the problem was never with cylinder 3 but was the duff injector in cylinder 1 all along. Anyhow 4 recon injectors arrived today got them in and away she goes.

Guys
Apologies for replying to a thread that's a year old, but I've just come back from a three thousand mile trip all over France, Italy, over the Alps. When I started out a couple of weeks ago I drove in the most horrendous rain I've seen for ages and had to leave the VX outside hotel overnight. Next day the engine light came on (yellow electronics one) and it idled really roughly and was very slow to start when warm (lots of throttle to get it going). I managed to keep it going all over the trip - fuel consumption was fine and it never stopped running. However I have the same symptoms as this thread and I couldn't find what answer you guys came up with - so here's a summary:
1. Engine light always on (yellow light)
2. Slow to start when warm (lots of throttle)- no problem when cold (choke I guess).
3. Fan runs all the time (pulled fuse to stop noise and battery drain).
4. I have an Astra GSi engine cover over my engine, but it does expose the coil pack.
I checked these:
1. No water in spark plug wells (sprayed WD40 in there anyway).
2. Cleaned and sprayed WD40 on Coil Pack connectors
2. Cleaned EGR plug connectors - sprayed WD40
I don't have an ODBC tool (should I buy one? - Where does it connect?)
Can you throw any light on this? Thanks.

Sorry - just saw the injector solution. Sounds like I should start there.
