Looking to wrap the exhaust as part of my temperature reduction plans for the car.

For a SC VX with a 3" Tullet what kind o temps am I likely to be hitting.....

ThermalVelocity seem to have to some decent enough products, but will I be all right with the G-Force Wrap which is desigened for aspirated cars and is good up to 550 degrees C? Or will I need the Magma Wrap which is designed for Turbo applications and good up to 1300 degrees C?

Answers on a postcard :)

Got the Magma wrap here (looks very good quality) though not sure I'm going to bother using it as I only really want to do the U bend and not sure I entirely trust wrapping. Especially given how quickly the exhaust wrap I wrapped the brace bar in disintegrated (was trying to dampen the knocking noise for the Le Mans trip). Am very seriously considering sending the thing off for ceramic coating instead.

I can wrap the u bend for you when I do the driveshaft. It is worth doing and perfectly safe if you use the right stuff.

wrapping is usually fine, if done right :) You could always ceramic coat the insides and then wrap the outer to really get the heat down (at risk to the backbox though)

thats the thing, surely if you ceramic coat the manifold and downpipe then you are moving all of the heat to the backbox? hope everyone paid the extra £40 ;)

If you have the space to do it, then increasing the exhaust bore will drop the EGT's

Yep, I went for the super-duper 1000°C AcoustaFil stuff. Seemed like a no-brainer and sounds like that's going to be the standard filling soon on the 3.0" systems. Shifting all of the heat to the backbox is kind of the reason I only want to wrap/coat the U bend - just to prevent some of the radiated hear near the arch liner and the inboard toe link joint. Maybe I'll just use some bits of Nimbus to beef up the toe link shielding.

I think what is needed is to get some of the sticky temperature gauges and find out how much radiant heat energy we get on the oil sump, gearbox etc.

I've got a load of the temperature indicator strips somewhere. Maybe I'll plaster them around the engine bay though obviously the numbers wont necessarily apply to tubbies. I'm hoping the car will never be as hot as it was at Stowe, the other weekend, again.

Given the colour the exhaust manifold reaches on the video on the Courtenay website I'd say it's definately over 550 degrees :) I've been to Zirotec, they are based on the Harwell Science Park just down the road from Abingdon, not a cheap option tho (was around £250 for what I wanted, so decided against it :D)

Yeah, I remember choking when I got a quote for coating the TMS 4-1 manifold. Just seems like a better solution than Camcoat's pour some paint through it and then spray the outside.

Would love to do my headers but cant be bothered with removing it, is it worth doing just for the u bend and pipes out of the back box, as I have a new back box to go on this weekend. Apparently the hotter the cat the better, so wrapping this may also be worth doing, is that right all you techie types. Martin s
