Thanks for trying anyway, there's always snags when trying new things. Thanks very much for all you've done on it so far. John, did you get a full refund off them or are you going to be out of pocket by paying us all back?

As above really. Thanks for all your efforts setting this up and seeing it through. It's appreciated. These things are sent to try us!

Thanks guys, you're a lovely bunch. I've just gone through the paypal refunds. - It says it takes 5-7 days, although you should have notifications. I think it puts it back on your card. 2 people I think should have the money already (As I had a bit of paypal balance). The cheques i'll sort over the weekend. I need envelopes and stamps. And AliM - Don't worry I got a full refund from the cutters, minus the one set I sent to Gherkin. (Since i'd already promised it to him.)

John, sorry to hear the news! As ever and to echo all.....well done for your efforts!! I am happy for you to hold my cash if an alternative is coming within a couple of months? Or would be happy (for the same cash) to just have a plain set with no logo at all!! Can they be turned upside down?? Just a thought... Again great effort, shame its only as good as the numpty who didnt pay attention!! lol Jason :)

Jason,

The company I've mentioned that I deal with at work - I'm going on a "supplier inspection" on Monday. (Cough)
As for turning the plates upside down.. the metal being 1mm sheet and blasting being aggressive, there is a ghost of the logo visible underneath.

As a guide a small bracket I had quoted in China was $1600 for the press tool, then 96c per piece, based on a MOQ of 500.
This cutter quoted no tooling cost (laser) and 42p each based on 500. - Very reasonable.
METOOL

But I'm unsure if anything will happen, so perhaps best to get the cash returned to you. (If you paypalled its already done).

Giles.. I'd be aiming at cheap. The 'actual price' of the plates in this thread was £42/ea - which was reasonable only because they'd come up with it/sorted the logo/jig etc. I think 25quid would be my target, in aly or stainless, to then be sprayed/left plain, or I have a contact who does cheapish vinyl cutting. "VX220" in carbon effect would look nice.

Ironically - I'm actually sorted. The samples are now glued to my car, so nobody feel sorry for me. just wish I could 'photocopy' them.

I'm not out to step on anyones toes but I can probably get these done in stainless and ally at a very good rate possibly with the VX220 cutout of them, not sure about the etching. I already have the template and was gonna get some made to sell on ebay as I had already seen this thread and didnt want to upset anyone by flogging them on the site itself. John if you still want to continue with this then I will back off and carry on as before, if not just give me the nod and I will get some prices sorted and posted on here. Jon

what were they blasting it with? sounds like you got the wrong people to do the blasting normally i cut a Vinyl template to cover the whole item to protect it, then blast it with a fine media leaving a nice finnish that dosnt warp the metal. Do this on glass and done a few bits in titanium and do lots of bike parts. would say post them over to me and ill sort them but sounds like they really did a job on them. www.robin-iom.co.uk

Robin. I think its bead-blasting. Certainly they left the vinyl on, and blasted through it, so it has to be aggressive. Probably the wrong process altogether! Jason/Giles...whatever you wish. I suppose i could get a quote as a guide if nothing else. - Need to get on NX to draw the profile as a DXF. - Jon - I could send you this if it helped.

Certainly they left the vinyl on, and blasted through it sure is the wrong way to do it as the vinyl will act as a resistance to the media hence bending the metal and making a mess of the metal. Sounds to me like they didnt know what they were doing. Done correctly would of left a really nice clean line with no deformation of the metal.

If anyone is getting prices for these, i'd be interested as long as the logo isn't cut out of the plate. I need them to cover up a crack! Cheers

If you have it that will be a help but not a nessesity as I have a template they can work from. Had a quick chat with them today and I can get satin type finish Stainless steel or mirror polished and can then probably do with or without the VX220 cutout design. Dont think I can do an etch design but still looking around.

Cheque arrived today John, all I can add is my thanks to everyone else's for trying. Funny how life often turns out like this, someone makes a cock up and the rest suffer. Don't be downhearted, just take the car out for a drive, that'll cheer you up. Always works for me, while I wait in vain to be spotted..................
