FLD - If there,s nothing closer we might have to take a long drive up to macclesfield. mbes2 - Ye i showed my uncle that one, i think he wants to keep the clam as a whole piece so its super easy to flip. He,s been having a mess around with the old clam and seems to think he can do something, i,ll post some teaser pics in a sec chinky chinky

Just read this start to finish. Great to see something so unique. As you say, your Uncle seems like a bit of a one-off. Will keep checking this thread for sure.

having the roll hoop cover as part of the rear clam it looks a lot stronger. I guess you have to replace engine cover hinges with something quick release, same with the two bolts going just under the glass. I think for the two bolts in the B pillar on the doors, you might have a locating dowel and a cam lock on the clam, or instead maybe a cable release latch.

He started restyling the broken clam today, so it looks like its going to have diffrent looking backend  Ye the the roll bar cover does make it alot stronger but its hard work to get water tight seals but hes cut things off now so no going back, i think he,s going to go for a cable latch and a locking mech coming of the 2 tubes that join the subframe to the roll hope. There will be a hooped bar joining the 2 latch,s with the boot hinges on so the boot stays on when you flip the clam. Back to the original N/A vents so you can lift the clam and the fuel filler will have to move either inboard or in the upper rear sill. We made a bit of progress today as we had the welder in, i,ll post some pics soon as some final decisions have been made and they work :P Sam.

I cut the seal on my roll bar cover aaaages ago. If you look at the seal it has a natural break line which leaves a slight flap (fnnnaaar flap!!) on the roll bar end of the seal. When the roll bar cover drops back on the overlap from the flap keeps water out OK. Hope that helps?

Ye sounds like the same thing that weve done, seems to work well unless you through a bucket of water on the roof but then it finds other ways in anyway

Quick vid of how it works

The painters carnt fit it in for a week or so so he has a while to think about if he wants a new clam or keep the messed up design he,s made at the back, the flip stuff all fits straight on to a new clam if need be.
Once its at the painters its clam of paint inside and out and shotblast and stove all the metalwork and wheels, i think he,s current choice is red on black but not sure yet.

I,ll post a better vid once he,s got everything in color.

Sam.
