Jesus. I pity the poor car that runs into the back of that. That gearbox must only just fit inside the clam.

Back on topic (ish)...wasn't the original buic a V6 too? Hmm rangerover block, crossbolted mains one? Die cast one!!??

1988 3.5L range rover EFI engine i think, so pre extra webbing strength & crossbolted mains unfortunatly.
Using the revised block would mean 1995 or later i think, so i would have to run a CAT for emissions and i dont want to be doing that :>

Current engine spec is -
20thou oversize vitesse pistons with with skimmed heads so about 10.xx C/R and 3.6L ish
vitesse valve,s
ported heads and match,ed the the manifolds
lightened and balance crank,flywheel/clutch and lightened standard rods
piper 270i cam/springs/lifters
edelbrock 500cfm carb and inlet

C/R is maybe a bit high but it turns out the heads had been skimmed previously before my uncle got the engine
If it does,nt rev high enough then we might put a VXT gearbox/final drive in as it,s a bit lower than the N/A box i belive and will probley suit the V8 rev range a bit better.
Hmm thats just made me think of the 6 speed M32 box, i wonder if thats shorter than the f23

That's a V8 on bodies with a sequential box. Nice doesn't begin to descibe flatshifting a setup like that!

Yay, it worked =]

After seeing other threads on getting the heater box to work better i thought i,d have a go today, it had been left on full hot so long it was pretty much siezed there. I used rust remover on all the brackets and a bit of hammer rite to keep the rust at bay in future, then got the hot/cold flap moving freely again and then sealed it all up with some sikaflex

While i was doing that my uncle turned up with some ported heads and a lightened frankenstein flywheel/ring gear
Posted Image

I forgot to take a picture & weigh the flywheel, i,ll try get some pictures of the flywheel and final engine build tommorrow if he lets me : [

The poorly 2.2 N/A sitting in the corner with snapped timing chain and valves being to friendly with the pistons :[

Posted Image

The new engine partly built up with the vx220 flywheel and rover v8 ring gear, the whole ring/fly/clutch & pressure plate ended up weighing around 14kgs

Posted Image

With the engine in place the sump just about clears the under tray

Posted Image

Timing cover end is very tight and has needed abit of rear sub frame modding even with a modded cover

Posted Image

With the carb on you can sort of see in this pic that the boot lid will also be very close.
Not sure what my uncle is going to do with this area yet, maybe a modded boot/mesh to keep the water out too

Posted Image

Exhausts are made and will need some decent wrapping to keep the bulkhead from melting ;)
Starter motor spacer mod & new alternator bracket should be ready tommorrow and clams/doors/boot/bonnet are down the painters getting a fresh coat of black as the were starting to bubble in places.

More soon ;)

Sam.

There was someone on ebay selling two of these bare skin boots but i think they may let in to much rain as the carb and filter will be ontop of the engine and its a daily use car. Will probley mod the original boot with raised louvers or something, either way its going to need some thinking about before the painters start on the boot
