When it comes back all we,ve got to do to the front end is put the new dampers on that i got from cliffe this week and then the front clam can go on
Thanks to Cliffie for the fast delivery and good price on these
We,ve also got some new dash gauges as the stack is far to difficult to use
Mounted in a suede panel were the stack was with the smaller ones in the dash some were, we should have some suede left over from were we,ve had the plastic handbrake cover covered
I did try and take a vid of it moving around the yard before it went to the painters but my digital cameras sound and video(for that matter) was useless and distorted, so i,ll have to try borrow a proper digi camcorder of someone
Im on holiday for a week tommorrow so no more updates till im back and hopefully the car should be back at the same time with some nice new black paint

Good to hear progress is being made
I seem to remember reading somewhere (might have been on here?) that the S1 Elise Stack takes readings from normal type sensors, might be easier to swap that in than fit a load of new gauges?
Bump... what's the progress and pics or vids!!!
Hmm if thats correct an S1 Stack with just 1 or 2 extra guages would certainly look more original
Progress report on monday, i did pop into the garage on friday on the way back home from holiday to look at the new paint job tho which was finished late last week and looks very nice with its new black window surround
Mondays jobs are to put the new dampers on, front clam and then take the engine back out for an unplanned tweak/fix

We got the car back from the painters last week with the clams loosely fitted for transport, first job was to take the front clam back off to fit the new dampers.
The front end is finished now and we,ve put the clam back on for the last time (fingers crossed) i forgot to take a piccy with it on tho, D'oh!
We had a play with the new dials too today and this is the final layout allthough the silver dash plate might change by the end of the week. Fuel and water temp is to the left and speedo/revs/oil pressure and warning lights in place of the stack.
And finaly i took a couple of pics with the rear clam on before we took that back off too, the V8 actually looks pretty small in there now
Next jobs
Wiring
Heat shielding round the boot
Exhaust wrap
and make some sort of new boot/engine cover thingy

Apologies if this is complete bollox but: I assume that the silver grille on top of the engine is the air intake? I also understand the rear of the car/clam has an area of negative air pressure (the VX generates some lift at the rear as a result). If this is the case, is it good to have the air intake in a position of negative air pressure?

Looking good.

Your correct it is a filter and it would be useless there, it was put on the carb to keep any crap out while it was at the painters
We havent really thought to much about the intake setup and boot lid yet, once we get everything up and running we,ll probably have a cone filter in the usual place or maybe even a exige style bootlid/engine cover with an air feed in it.
All the pictures are very much work in progress, we even had to take the engine/gearbox back out the car today
Busy week this week but hopefully another update by friday

If so then take a look at the boot lid with raised section over the engine. Fiveoclockhero and JimmyJamJerusalem have them.

I assume you need a different boot lid because of needing some extra clearance over the carb/air feed pipes (when they go on)?

Yep we will need some more space to make a decent intake setup, someone posted up some pictures earlyer in the thread showing this boot lid and a badster/fastback style boot. If it was my choice i would go the easyer route and use this raised boot and have an inclosed inlet box with a pipe/cone filter going down to the passenger side air scoop but my uncle thinks it,ll let in to much water onto the distributor etc
He also has some crazy idea of making a perspex engine cover with naca ducts in or something in a badster/fastback style so you can still see out the back and also have enough room to fit some ITBs in future we shall see

We got the freshly painted front clam and doors on and lined up and also got the door mirrors and interior panels back on. Still waiting on getting the plastic dash cover and gear/handbrake cover back from the trimmers covered in a thin alcantara, ish material.
Weve got the engine back in now after fixing a clutch release bearing issue which also gave me a chance to wrap the exhaust propley while of the car. Not much else has changed here other than running wires, taking an oil pressure pipe from the remote oil filter housing which powers an electric oil pressure gauge. Weve also mounted a speed sensor to the drivers side rear hub that takes a reading every revolution from the driveshaft, would of been nice to mount it to a front wheel but there was no decent place to mount it.
Up a 5AM to watch the Japan F1 Qualifying then over to the garage to see if we can finish the wiring and get the dash back in, thats if the F1 does,nt send me back to sleep

We got the dash & interior finished today which covers most of the badly painted silver plastic we still have to calibrate the speedo which is done via the button on the front.
My uncle also started on the boot today, im not sure what he has in mind but i thought id add a picture of his 5 minutes of destruction
Clams,Undertrays & lights all back on too with nice new zinc C-Clips with some grease on this time round , we still have to put the front wheel arch liners in and lower the ride height a bit.
Then its time for its first test drive down the lane and back, we carnt wait to hear what the engine/exhaust sounds like under load. The sound changes quite alot at idle depending on what type of tailpipe is on, rolled in/out or straight and currently has more of a straight 6 growl than a TVR burble due to the short, ish exhuast i guess.
I,ll get a vid up soon as were happy with it all
Yum Roast dinner time

I've got a set of four 44 IDF Webers and manifold kicking around somewhere that I keep meaning to sell, might be overkill for a largely standard 3.5 though!
Car is looking good, I think the exhaust will probably be quite loud, as it should be

The exhaust is bordering on too loud but its a nice sound to have an excess of
