Frank, I thought the paddle shift was really impressive, would love to know a few more basic details.

Wow lots of posts to read and thanks again for all the nice comments ;) the ronin - i dont really have any engine measurements and its all back together again now so not easy to get too, all i know is its a tight fit. Crank alternator pulley has about half an inch of clearence so some hard rubber engine mounts are needed to keep it all from moving. From the looks of the pictures siztenboots posted the S2 and VX rear subframes are identical so a Rover V8 should fit maybe even the pushrod chevy/ford too but there atleast 50KGs heavyer even with the alloy heads on. We did think about the Lexus V8 as you can get them from pre 1992 cars so no emissions test over here but soon as you get into overhead cam the engine was to wide and we didnt want to be modifiy the bulkhead or subframe to get an exhaust in, let alone trying to get to the spark plugs. So the best bet for us was the Rover V8 as were never going to be wanting more than 350bhp and its light, after all this car belongs to my aunt for mainly commuting to and from work and going to get the shopping at asda ;) Maybe with the MR2 box it,ll give you more room to play with  I should also point out that my work title is "Tea Boy" my uncle done the conversion and he hardly uses e-mail yet let alone forums hence why i sound like a technicial newbie ;) Sam.

That sounds  very good work and a top job so far and of course the best colour :D
this gets me thinking V8 supercharged :tt: :tt: :tt: :tt: :tt: :tt: :tt: :tt:

No chance of getting a blower belt in there, we would like too tho ;)
Maybe a twin turbo setup sitting over the gearbox but the heat...

Go on enlighten us on the costs so far..... Also how many hours have you ended up putting into it?

And finally would you do it all over again?

Good evening sir [/smiles]

I would imagine that the 'labour of love' and family connection would make this a fun project to exercise one's skill along with/as well as, one's generocity...a commercial enterprise? [/unsure]

I cannot agree more, would love this kind of exhaust note out of the back of my car, but as you say I suspect the labour hours that would be required may be what makes such a project a complete one-off!

It is all too easy for someone to pipe up and say 'make me one' having coated up the secondhand engine and think 'gotta be cheaper than SC'ing only to find that the true cost to blow any budget they have completely out of the water.

Any custom manufacturing is just about always going to be more expensive than buying an 'off-the-shelf' item.

I am truly jealous of how that car sounds and would greatly appreciate a passenger ride in it, but believing that I could afford to get someone to slap one of those in my boot is beyond logic.

HeHe am i right in thinking that original question was aimed towards the ronin ? ;)
It went of topic in a interesting read tho, your right it was,nt cheap. Rebuilt Rover V8 with 90% new parts was 2.5k but were still within my aunts budget, the free weekends of labour payed for the paint job ;)

You have in essence answered my question, which was originally aimed at you... thumbsup £2.5 on that engine is about what I had estimated, it was trying to rationalise what the cost of this project would have been for someone to pay for it to be done for them. My guesses would be a total cost of £6-8k if you were to charge labour at £100/hr (irrespective of the numbers of individuals involved at any one time). I ask because I suspect that you have already have had PMs, like Vocky or Joe/Lee have with thief respective power options, asking for a quote for you to sort them out, only to back out the minute a price is mentioned! I honestly would love to be the owner of that car even f it was no more potent than the standard 2.2 for the noise alone. But I know I cannot afford such a thing so I sit firmly in jealousy group.

I think that 'speed' measured in an a-2-b/0-60 measurement, is irrelevant. Travelling to and from is a necessary evil but the devil's definitely between the pages/in the detail, in just how much fun you can have getting there [/winks]

Am a bit confused Icey!

Sorry.

Actually don't be at all... Seems as though this red wine is a bit more effective (defective) than others... Reading your post a second time and I can't see why I didn't get it first time.

Time for bed, night night.

I missed your reply, apologies.

I'm glad that you had a nice drink/night.

'Good night' belated wishes returned to you for tonight.

Well, to put the figures into perspective a Honda converted Lotus elise costs around £11k (+ extras) as a turnkey conversion - This is the full driveaway price which includes for a standard 220bhp civic type R engine to be fitted and warrantied for 12 months.

Even if you DIY a honda converted elise, the basic kit is around £4.5k, and then you have to source a civic type r engine/gbox which would be at least another £1.5k on top.

Am I being stupid? I can't seem to find the video of this monster going. Has it been removed?

Also forgot to mention that this car is awesome. Good to see someone with ambition and obviously a lot of talent doing something different with the Vx. Looks Sounds like it paid off! Not sure what the insurance company will say about it though
