my top tip is to not bother undoing the screws and just force the dash up, it easily pops the expanded foam off the fixings thus saving you from dropping the screws into the dash area  then Newton does an excellent job of holding it down once you lower it back :)

While taking off the dash top I was thinking how agile were the little fingers of the Norfolk farmers, to get the screws up there in the first place. Must be ten times more difficult to screw them up.. that I'm dreading.

But that's not the main problem, where the Fu*ck is the central locking control unit located

The problem might lay in the central locking control unit (this is unit A12 on the wiring diagram on the TIS disk). However, not too sure of the physical location of this control unit. Anybody got any information?

Dug out my old notes and never actually seen a control unit but there are wires from pins 6 and 2 on the alarm unit that connect to the locking unit. 6 is unlock, 2 is lock. That's all I have and can't help more. Plus I bet the wires go into the loom bundle so impossible to trace.

Good luck. If it's not the control unit then maybe the solenoids are failing. Odd that both would fail at the exact same time though. Very improbable. Think you are on the right track.

Hi Ouchie,

From the wiring diagram you are right, wires from the rocker on the steering column (switch S87) go to pins 6 & 2 on the central locking control unit. Common on the switch is a black wire, however, the other two are not labeled on the diagram. (I could probably trace them through the loom it it was not so difficult to remove the rocker switch). Since one position of the rocker switch does switch the solenoids (motors) and the other position does not, either its a fault in the rocker switch or the control module.
I think I have found the module by a process of elimination, it's a surface mount black plastic enclosure just behind the main light switch panel and to the right of a series of three relays. Mine is labeled a Lotus CDL unit with some other part or serial numbers, so it might ber a cheap part from Lotus instead of a rip off from Vauxhall.

Thanks

Dave

Was just going to suggest looking in that area. Having a look at the components in one of the EPC diagrams, there appeared to be an unknown (to me) component in either that area or underneath the instrument binnacle/pod. Fingers crossed, that module is your problem. thumbsup

Halfords sell a pack of 10 screws that are identical to the ones used on the dash top. I think they are M4x19mm but can't remember for sure. Pack is about £1.59 and the screws might be the same for the steering cowl too.

Anyone know if the M4x19mm screw size is correct? I seem to have misplaced mine

When you remove the top of the dash put a towel over the instrument pod first, it stops the top of the dash scratching the instrument pod. I saw Fezzara do this when he was sorting out my heater.

Good tip.

Is Fezzara the female equivalent of Fezzasus?

Yep too late for that as mine has massive fracture marks on it anyway and last night gave in and cracked straight across the top so that will be another thing to fix at a later date!

Will be popping into B&Q tonight to get screws so if anyone could confirm size that would be great
