As mentioned in the other thread for who is going to donington. There was a lotus which crashed into the wall coming onto the straight just before the pits. I have been told he broke his leg and arm, and apparently a few ribs. Whoever the driver was i wish him a speedy recovery. Just goes to show that although these little cars disintergrate they are a fairly safe unit inside the 'cockpit'

That's a solid impact. However, from the angle of impact I am a bit surprised that he broke an arm, and very surprised that he broke a leg.

Ouch, sad to see. Hope the driver recovers ok. A salient reminder that it can go horribly wrong on a track day - even when you're wearing a long sleeved shirt! :(

:yeahthat: plus it does look like he was only using the inertia reel seatbelts rather than a full harness, a harness would have possibly prevented some of the rib injury although the impact must have been severe to break a leg as well an an arm :tumble:

:( Leg injuries 'tend' to happen due to submarining - if that were the case here the plate below the dash is designed to trap the occupant by the knees, which in severe cases will result in a broken leg, again this may have been prevented by a harness if using one of the schroth ones or a five point. A mate of a guy I work with worked on the design of the closure plate ergonomics, one of the reasons I decided to get harnesses after having that discussion. Rare thing to happen tho - only heard of it once in a Vx, and that was a head on collision Wishing the driver a speedy recovery :grouphug:

Turns out it was his pelvis, not his leg: 7 broken ribs (in 2 places each, front and back) A broken collar bone Broke his pelvis in 3 places (relatively minor fractures of some of the smaller bones from what I can understand) A partially collapsed lung (not serious enough for a chest drain, but serious enough for them to be concerned about infection) Ouch :(

I was concerned about submarining so went for the 6-point harnesses. I was also concerned that if I didn't do the harnesses up correctly - lap straps across the pelvis etc - in the event of an accident I'd do myself more damage than using a normal seat belt.

That sounds really painful, but totally recoverable so all should be well soon enough. It will feel like forever though. I expect even a 4-point harness would have helped a lot. Still, I'd rather end up like that than rollover and break my neck.
