I'm undecided about the fittings.... I fitted the 1/4" NPT fitting but all I achieved was to bring the fuel lines much closer to the engine. Didn't really improve the aesthetic for me as the two fuel lines were similar heights before and that seems spoiled now so my pile of spare bits has grown larger again

Also I think (for me) distancing the fuel lines away from the engine will keep the fuel temps down a little. Only really a concern for me as without pulse width modulation on the 044 fuel pump I will be recirculating the fuel quite a bit which will raise the fuel temps..... :(

Anyway, back to the car.....

With the fuel system back together I finally got the rear clam back on, roll over cover and hardtop, then started the arduous task of re-assembling the spoiler pylons. Found I had movement in one of the pylons once it was fully assembled which was odd as it was rock solid before the strip down. So had to completely strip the whole back end down again, soul destroying :( basically found that the rivnuts I'd used (M6) were not up to the task. Decided that to avoid the same issues I'd have to nut & bolt it so went up to M8 just to give it a bit more strength. Both sides btw.

Excuse the random looking bolt pattern but there's a fair bit going on underneath the plate. It's absolutly rock solid now, much better this way.

Only problem was getting inside the section of the rear subframe to tension the nuts with the clam and exhaust in place. Took some lateral thinking and acts of contorsionism to get it done and I pray to god I've not got to take the clam back off for a while!!!!

Will bolt it all back up tomorrow hopefully, then she's having a good wash!!

I would imagine that an added bonus of that big mounting plate is that you can use to to help stiffen and improve the sub frame assembly mounting to the main chassis legs. I was shocked by the amount of flex in the sub frame on my car as I lowered/raised the engine in and out of it. It had a couple of inches of flex in it with/without the engine in it and it struck me how much the car must flex under loading/unloading during driving. If I take my clam off again I might try and make something similar to yours up to help. :)

Following on from that, is anyone aware of a UK based VX owner who has replaced the whole sub frame assembly with something a bit more rigid/bestter attached to the chassis? I know there is a Czech one that that did it, but it wasn't for our standard engines.

Maybe a PM to AtomX, as I seem to remember him tinkering with an updated subframe.

Yep, I think the doc had something in mind.

Also, presumably the v8 vx had a diff sub frame? That Caral thing?

Most significant improvement to chassis rigidity I've had was the roll cage. The rear stanchions come down and form new brackets for the too of the rear damper to bolt directly into.

Was it noticably perceptable that the car was more solid once the roll cage was put in Jimmy? If so, how do you feel it affected the car (in terms of power delivery, cornering etc) please?

It defo has a more 'solid' feel to the car with the cage in. As to how that transfers to actual handling changes I do not know as I did so much to the car in such a short time it's tough to say what did what really but it certainly stiffened the chassis up when fitted as noted here in this test drive

So the car's finally back in one piece and the engines sounding great! When I stripped it down I certainly didn't anticipate the amount of work I'd actually be doing before putting it back together.

There was alot of waiting around for parts too what with sending my Tullet back to be re-packed and all the individual fuel fittings I waited for from the states etc.

A done now though and pretty much ready to arrange a test day somewhere to make sure everything is back to normal.

Car was grubby as you like so I gave her a good scrub today, shampoo, attempted to clay it, EGP, then wax (Dodo Juice Banana Armour, cheers Stu thumbsup).

Excuse my crappy phone pics and my messy garage, but you get the idea :)

I know this is a track weapon Jimmy, but it looks fantastic as far as aesthetics go! Not many track weapons manage to look pretty and nail quick lap times lol

Snet's a long way to go to test mate. Once the car's shook down and reliable then I'm defo on for some track days but really need to validate it first :)
