I really should add a couple of the crucial missing smileys to the site. :D Yeah, that's why I asked. I was surprised that you were "only" getting 11psi with the 2.9" on and it seemed a bit weird that I'm running at almost 1bar but have never experienced a MAP failure, whilst lots of others have (and repeated failures at that). Exactly the same exhaust setup, so as you said, it's not that. I've got the blower cams in but nothing custom on the timing front, just however they fit at the standard timing marks. No phenolic spacer on mine either, so you're right, I guess that reduces the size of my inlet and potentially increases the pressure in my manifold. Are you on standard sized valves still? thumbsup I'm sure, come the Friday before the National, I'll be kicking myself for cancelling. Trouble is, I'd probably still rather track the Audi than the VX.

I was a bit concerned Techie was cheering up a bit, particularly after the Traveller's incident, but no, pleased to see all is well :D

That's me being cheerful. I just don't do warm and cuddly, that section of my brain is irreparably damaged after too many pints and too many headbutt's. Luckily, I'm not hampered with the empathy gene in my DNA strand either. You see, I was born to be a sysadmin. :D

Clearly the master is too big. Smaller ones are much easier to find than big ones!

OK so those that were there saw my engine was getting a little oil surge and was breathing a littl oil into the engine bay.  A little goes a long way and made a sticky horrible mess so I stripped the clam off to clean it all up.

While the clam was off I noticed the subframe mounts for my wing had been tugging on the subframe and there was a little play in them.  The rear subframe is very thin with some rivnuts mounted in the top face so I decided that the subframe needed beefing up a little....

Got some plates cut from 5mm mild steel.

Posted Image

Cut a slot in it to take the exhaust bracket  (not with the wood saw :P)

Posted Image

Drilled out pilot holes in the same layout as the original bolt pattern

Posted Image

Then drilled and tapped the holes with an M8 thread (6.8mm drill)

Posted Image

Put a couple of bolts in to test the position of the plate once butted up against the subframe.  Now need to instert a retaining bolt.  Didn't have any countersunk bolts left so recessed a small dome bolt.  Does the trick though :)

Place in place with retainer bolt :)

Spoiler mount test bolted to subframe.  Rock SOLID!

Now one for the parents out there :)

As mentioned previoulsy I was getting oil from my breather so needed to devise a catch tank.

Found a suitable vessle

Posted Image

Then got a small plastic tube to ensure the inlet is as low as possible in the bottle.

Posted Image

Now I thought I'd put the label back on the bottle to show where I got it from :)  The plastic tube is a support from my sons ball pool too

Sealed the tube in the bottle with some self emalgamating tape.

Posted Image

Drilled a few holes and mounted inside the RH tubby ear area.

Posted Image

Connected up to the breather hose and job done.  Happy with that :D

How come?

I drilled the same holes in the backside of the bottle too.  Blowing through it it offers very little resistance.  I wish I didn't drill three each side tbh as I wanted more air resistance.

Bottle seems quite thick, I don't think it will melt.  Worth a look though :)

Gonna be full of water very soon

How come guys?  What's the alternatve?  2 Track hours.....?  That should last me a year or two ha ha

How come guys?  What's the alternatve?  2 Track hours.....?  That should last me a year or two ha ha

That is a good question.

I can't tell you the exact cause. Something with over pressure generated in the cam section on our SC's, and the fact that we block off the pcv during the SC conversion (that small hole between cil 2 and 3) is making it worse.

- Some have come to piece with it, and route the rocker cover breather hose to the outside of the car.

- Vocky has extended the cam cover breather hole, and that stopped bis car blowing out oily water.

- One guy has put an extra breather in his oilcap, and that stopped bis car blowing out oily water.

- One of the belgian guys using obd tuner has created a custom gasket to enable the pcv again and that stopped bis car blowing out oily water.

- Two dutch guys quite recently put the catch tank exit back into the inlet pipe, via a T piece, on which the end has a small filter, and that stopped their cars blowing out oily water.

I will built in that last option this week, and test the solution on the zandvoort trackday end of august, to verify it also works under stress.

This approach is identical to the one used by GM in the Z22SE/L61 tuning book:

It will also be the route I will be going down when I make the adaptions in a few weeks.
