What do you think of the MX5's behaviour in the vid above?? Go to 6:20.

Ther was a very clear indication to pass on the left from the MX5 but the Honda driver almost came to a halt before the corner, it may be that the MX5 driver thought that the Honda had not seen the signal and was therefore waiting for the MX5.

C'mon, the MX5 didn't lift at all, and the Honda guy was just keeping his wits about him wondering if the MX5 would turn in on him. Which he did. The pass should have been made well before the braking zones, but the MX5 just kept his foot down. Very selfish driving dude!

That is far more of a crime than bolting past someone without consent in my book.

What were you out in Ken?

Hmm, it will be interesting to get Eugene's comments (assuming he was driving) but I think there was too much hesitation from the Honda.

I was not there, if I had I would have been in an Elise S1, same spec as the naughty red car.

I thought you guys might enjoy one of my video's, it's probably enough to put you off doing a Porsche track day:

Jimmy I would change 'selfish' to 'dangerous' frankly

6.39 is pretty selfish i think and couldnt make silverstone as i was working but this attitude will havw annoy me
i track for fun and enjoy myself
i am not a racing driver and will never want to be one
so that kind of attitude will p*ss me off
i pay good money and intend to enjoy myself but always look in my mirror and let them pass
if i wanted to go faster i will get a GT2 RS and go insane

Damn, why does Oulton always look so very narrow from in-car videos? I'd seen that video before. May have been linked to from the track-club website. thumbsup So hoping my visit there next month is dry this time.

I kind of agree with him too Jimmy but what happens if and when we do it and we get spoken to by Pete? What do we do? We take the bollocking, apologise to Pete and if we can, the driver concerned and we make damn sure we keep our noses clean for the rest of the day. He is talking like it should be adopted as best practice. Track Day rules apply regardless of our talent (or in my case assumed talent).

Pete is hardly going to lose it with you if you pass a car on hanger straight that has not indicated.

I actually think indicating is good practice and good manners, just that it is not necessary all the time, nor is it necessary to hang back waiting for the indicator if you can pass safely.

I agree Pete isn't going to lose it with you if you pass a car on the Hanger Straight that has not indicated but that is not what happened and not what we are talking about here.

It warms me inside to hear you think indicating is good practice and good manners and even that it is not necessary all the time but it is necessary to hang back until you are sure the car in front knows you are there and about to overtake and allow them to move out of the way and on straights only. Not in the approach to corners or in braking zones.

Good vid and some nice driving there. Far from putting me off, that is more like the sort of thing I would enjoy, far less sterile and closer to the real thing.

Every TDO I've been with operate the same procedure for overtakes, however they may not all enforce it. If you transgressed the rule at Goodwood you'd defo be black flagged and given one warning but at MSV days it seems to me that any instructions in the briefings are instantly forgotten. The TDOs have to err on the safe side for their own protection and the rule as it stands is about as safe as you can go.

not being the fastest on track I have developed a sort of 6th sense as to when a "bold" passing manoevre is coming. For instance in Dave's last video i didn't indicate but I knew he was coming through so gave a slight lift. There was no real point in indicating as he would have been alongside before the first flash.

:D
