Remove that black zipty that blocks the system from full compression.
And use some soapy stuff to lube the blue o-ring for easier popping.

I'm worried that if I put plastic or aluminium over it the big black plastic thing with speakers and roof shelf won't fit too well. So I'm going to refit the inspection plate with the cut out and seal the cut line with adhesive silicone. it does need to be quite thin to fit underneath the speaker / shelf trim

all way neater than mine, but like you say gaffer out of sight out of mind!
i dropped a rivet in the gap between the tank, no way was i trying to fish that out..... only just after 2 years worked its way free
