There are always these if it wasn't for the 'not for more than 200 bhp' warning: http://www.elisepart...elled-discs-s2/

This has always made me laugh in no way does the power of a car have any effect on the strength of the brakes.

Yes it could mean it would be going faster between corners but that would be a heat dissipation issue, retarding force is defined by the pads and tyres not how fast your going.
That can't be right either. In that case how do you explain the value of carbon ceramic disks?

You can lock up a wheel with your normal disks, so it's not that carbon brakes harder. However, on carbon disks you can brake a lot later (even when steel brakes not yet getting too hot).

Retarding force is definitely also determined by the disk surface..

glol, tell this to scuffers. theres a thread i read recently where he's preaching about forces at maxpower through brakes...cause you know we're all pushing the throttle hard when braking...
as usual, kind of missing the point.   on a single brake event, makes no difference, over time with repeated application, more engine power = higher speeds = higher average brake loads   thus you have more heat for the disks to dissipate.
Still not making sense. Surely the speed at which you are braking regularly from isn't purely down to the power the car has? Track/road layout, chassis/suspension/aero effeciencies allowing less braking, driver talent and style/balls. The previous thread was using maths based on force required to stop from pushing in at max power, which is a bit silly but interesting nontheless, that was my point really.

How many more spare parts do you need for that car? It's all adding weight...

(When can we map it? In September it will be a year ago that we started, haha.)

are there any updates for the LSJ engine into vx220 chassis loom, like the abs signal and I think something else, but cannot remember what that was.

It's been that long

I hope this car isn't a case of "stage too far". Hopefully we will see it back on the road spanking some Ferraris and Porsches :)

It's still at jims he has a lovely warm garage  I'm arranging a lock up at a farm as we speak just waiting for them to make some room for me hopefully! I went from na to stage too far i think... Then the lose of license and house purchase made it go on the back burner however now want it up and ready. Realistically I imagine it will be finished towards end of this year ready for some proper trackday catch up next year

Cool, keep plugging Joe, I have know what it's like suffering from too much work to do on the car and not enough actual driving of the stupid plastic things, but sometimes just 20 minutes of blasting/driving can make up for 20 hours of toiling in the garage.

Maybe on the drive back from Jimmy's you can pop by my place and we can scare each other to death, LOL  :)

Yeah good point bud. I think it will go to this farm where I can finish it off least then it's only down the road instead of 2hrs away! Then once it's all back together and everything is checked over twice I think I will tow it to a trackday and give it the run down! Then it's time for the road! Will have to meet up once it's done! Still no sign of persuading you to get onto track then?

Yea, ease/closeness of access to work on the thing deffo helps a lot I am sure, that way you can work on it for an hour here and there when time permits in evenings etc.

I am getting a new ECU + laptop so that I can then fully re-program it for each outing, also with some other ECU wizardry that will help stop me wearing my rear tyres out so fast and sort out any mild/medium over torque situations. After that I really need to address improving the brakes as they are fine for fast road/tracking but not really good enough for full bore stops at hectic speeds and don't really match the power, as at the moment my +ive G-force are stronger than my -ive G-forces, even with RC6 pads.

After that the car will be fit for 111 Elise spanking, and possibly muller a few souped up Novas or maybe even an NA VX220 if I am lucky (I've been told this "fact" by others who know a lot)  ;)

I may make an appearance at a track or two (hopefully next National), but as the road is free, is available every day, doesn't require pre-booking, has no noise limits and is far more convenient, it is hard to convert me !

Pip pip, keep spannering and good luck :)

Nev.

Completely different man!! Book one trackday... With some big boys and you will be hooked guarantee!!! Go for performance friction pads! Much better than the rcs I think as I don't rate them pads at all. I'm waiting for the steffan spot calipers to come available so I can go 4 pots all round :D

Glad to hear this Joe, been a while since you've sounded so positive about the car.

I'm looking fwd to seeing you with an actual Vx220 too, having known you for a couple of years and only ever seen you drive your van(s)!

I'd wager a bett the NA and nova would still be the quicker car on track. I base my opinion on facts from the last national, not mathematical figures on paper. ;)
