What are the general thoughts on wrapping the manifold and down pipe. I've read as many reasons not to do so as those which recommend it.

Joe,

why didn't you get a re-packable silencer? My Tubular silencer had to be thrown away after a few track days as it burnt out all of Jim's wadding (it was completely empty) Ive now got a tullet re-packable rear box & that now needs to be re-packed as it's getting much louder.

Also, wrapping your manifold & pipework may accelerate this process as the heat will be even more extreme in the box. My paintwork around the tailpipes also got burnt.

Your car will be without doubt the most beastly Supercharged VX to date...My car is quick, but yours will be lighting up the tyres exiting corners & on the straights...

I too may bolt on a Harrop at some stage, not for more power but for it's quietness....How odd does that sound!

According to his site, this muffler design should survive without repacking: http://2bular.com/co...the-h2-gt3.html

Yeah, I know! i shipped the silencer back to him & all JIM said was..."its empty, you will need to buy another new one!" and he just shipped it back to me & I gave it away for nothing...

This is a new design and is tried and tested with the high high powered lotus boys. The silenced decat is very good and the louder the system is the better this will work. Paul, Jim told me to wrap his system so I imagine it's a good thing or atleaat a good thing on his systems Will hopefully be bringing it to angelsey If I do I will blag a sound test :) If it's too loud the backbox will be going back and me and Jim will have to come up with a new design! I have already had some thoughts about maxing out the Space if need be ;) Max you are welcome to take it out (won't be mapped at angelsey though :( ) to see what you think of the power/gearing/stopping :) the harrop is also much quieter than the m62 which is a bit annoying as I love the whine but very good news for trackdays!

Joe,

I agree totally, the M62 on track is awesome, you're never in doubt how hard the engine is being worked. I too would miss that if I went to a Harrop.

I assume that your car will be equipped with Jimmy's old Randy spec Nitrons? ..So, you better have good brakes, you'll need them on track. Nick's car was very quick the last time I saw it on track, yours is likely to be even more rapid if the mapping works out as I suspect it will.

You're welcome to take mine out too, but beware, it's less plush than your cabin! Earplugs will be supplied free of charge!

As for your 2ubular exhaust, there's no doubting the quality of Jim's work, but after his & now my current Tullet box which is starting to get noisy again, I'm glad mine is packable... it's also much bigger than yours! :gayfight: but alas, heavier! :angry2:

I had to take a none repackable tubular off my old one it was fooked after about 4k of been fitted and that was before the charger got put on. Bit overrated I think. Only made up of pre made bends as well no sexy pipework.

can you show me a 3" vx system that isnt made up of pre made bends? or even a 2.5" system? i can only think of a standard system/miltek that uses no pre made bends

Doesn't really matter whether bends are pre made or not, it's whether they are mandrel bent or just empty. If you use a mandrel you'll get a much smoother bend with less variation in diameter. Standard bends will end up with a flattened area, hence what I would perceive as being a 'well made' bend will probably differ to other people.

yeah im running the hoffman spec nitrons that jimmy used to have before going to those HUGE 46mm spec!! yet to see what they are like rallly

my brake setup is:

braided brakelines
ATS blue fluid
front brake cooling kit
4 pot lotus spec calipers
standard rears
CL5+ pads all round

what brake setup do you have now?

indeed the tullet stuff is heavy! will be interesting to see if i will need a repackable version or not, nick is still on the original packing which he has had for years now! i am really hoping it wont lose its packing and im going to stay postive and say it wont :tt:

thanks for the offer buddy! im sure i will take you up on that one day ;) if you venture near tullet to drop the box off for repacking give me a shout they are only down the road from me chinky chinky

Did you not use the old front calipers on the rear? I thought my brakes were good, obviously not! i'm just running the standard NA setup but with FRont AP ali belled discs, Pagid RS14's front & rear, braided hoses & decent fluid. I know you're on a weight reduction plan. Mine was weighed at Hoffman's last week & came in at a lardy 817kgs with just over half a tank of fuel. That's with the new twin Tullet rear boxes (which are thicker gauge & much heavier) the new Nitron dampers plus a huge Air filter & pipework. What does yours weigh?

I can remove my box in 10 mins as I have no boot & probably Hoffmans will repack it for me, although I may go back to Chris Tullet as it too has got much louder in just two track days.

Maybe I did have bad luck with the 2ubular. I did originally request a repackable rear box from Jim & he was adamant that it was not necessary quoting me various High Spec Lotus's he'd supplied without any problems.

...At the time I had probably done 800 miles before my static noise tests reached 112db & the rear box was £600 ish. He wasn't willing to replace it at all. One of the guys on this forum now has it & it was totally empty.

Anyway, I'm sure he's sorted it now or maybe Jonnyboy & I were the only unlucky ones!

Na i don't think there is any need to put the front 2 pots on the rear to be honest... But Ali bells  i will have to get me a set of them one day when the bank balance goes back up to being healthy again  Will be interesting to see what you think about the new shocks Also do you have a picture of your fancy air filter setup now? Be good to see that aswell and might copy it if I approve  817kg that is very light but I thought you would be lighter to be honest. Did you weigh the difference in exhaust systems? Not sure how much mine is weighing yet the 17" wheels with big tyres aren't going to help matters :( Are you still planning on fitting a cage? Or have you gone off the idea now? I'm very hopeful of this exhaust system :)

I have a set of bells for AP disks (12 bolts) lying around, which i do not use (AP pricing scares me)
They were custom made a few years ago for the vx/speedster.
Maybe of interest to you, once you get you x-mass bonus thumbsup

Yes, the big-power Vx's were certainly a learning curve! In compensation, you were given a £1600 full system FOC for your 2-eleven Max - or did you forget about that? btw, I know what you did - you're certainly worth the watching, as we say up here.

On a brighter note, it's a pleasure to be working with Joe, someone I can trust Posted Image .
Keeping 400bhp under control is a real challenge and I've used all the tricks/flicks to quieten this beastie down and it'll be verrrry interrrresting to see/hear(!) the results. I wanted the wrap to hide some design features, it won't harm anything. My designs had a distressing tendency to turn up in a.n.other's workshop  and there's a couple of things I want to keep from prying eyes.
Certainly had some impressive results with the new Trackday silencer and the SDCP is a necessary additon to the armoury - a very trick piece of kit which works better the more noise you make - and no packing to burn out/blow away.
2" manifold, of course, need that for a VX220 SC, this big-pot motor moves some amount of air. There's capacity for further noise-control if need be - NOISE is such a big issue now, unfortunately. Thanks for the pics Joe thumbsup

The 2bular is the first exhaust I've seen to actually use some silencer tecnology rather than 'just' shoe horn in another / bigger box. I'll be watching Joes car very carefully.....to see what I can scavenge when he stacks it!
