Botch super 4's.... fcuk me you really are a chav

They are pretty much the worst spark plug ever made!

are they the same tip length, presumably you don't want to mess about with quench area.

Shouldn't you be going for a wire ring a copper gasket setup if you're heading for big power without liners?

im not expecting to go over 400bhp... not yet  i think liners have to be done at 420ish so i will stick to under 400bhp which this gasket can handle :) the price of liners ad getting them fitted is expensive to say the least!

Yeah, liners are MEGA money. However, having read through various degrees of build book it seems the OE liners aren't actually that bad. It looks more like a stability of the form issue rather than material of the liner issue. They have tried a deck plate which caused block cracking suggesting the whole lot moves about. Fire rings machined between head and block are good for 600 bhp. These give some location assistance. This suggests to me either movement and failure or movement and blow-by / burn back of the liner. The fire ring set-up uses special studs too suggesting its a case of holding the whole lot together so it doesn't move. Might be a cheap alternative to liners....if you can source the gasket / ring set. The darton liners have better support round the edges. I'm sure doc or vock could enlighten us more on this one. :poke:

The last price I could find was something like 360 dollars. That was a genuine GM one! I just cant find a supplier. I'd imagine they'll be a bit more with the current availability.

I'll have to look in the book when I get home. I've got a part number and everything....but no part. :(

Awesome. I'd got this: 88958614 COPPER HEAD GASKET/O-RING KIT. 3.400" BORE ECOTEC RACE ENGINE Its a piece of p*ss to cut grooves in the head / cylinder top for o-rings so dont pay much. If youre ordering one let me know we could share some shipping.

Also thanks to Lee for coming round and helping me we managed to remove both clams, stripped the engine down, ready to disconnect gearbox, driveshafts and then already to pull out and chuck in the new car.

Front end we fitted the charge cooler, new hose pipes, rad surround just need to run pipes and fit hids, arb, front V, and then the clam is ready to go on unless my uncle is ready to respray the car if so then he can have both clams and bonnet boot if not then I will refit clam and bonnet

Jobs for tomorrow is really complete the front end and remove door cards as they are sold :) then it's a waiting game for my new engine to arrive along with exhaust, and custom charge cooler tank and possible a few extra toys :)

These electric water pumps are pretty good, we have one on the VX and a 1950s alvis now for the last year or so. The only problem we have had is they must be the right way up and at a slight tilt like it says in the instructions  or it wont bleed the air through and they also do a optional speed sensor so it runs slow/fast depending on water temp that we have yet to try but the flow speed is very good thumbsup Looking forward to this build thumbsup Sam.

Hmmm optional speed sensor sounds pretty good! Will have to look into that! I'm going to fit an Led Chav light to it and put it on the dash somewhere so i can make sure that it is working! Also looking at fitting a timer to it or over ride so that I can keep it on after track abuse while the engine is off :)
