very annoying day today... set off very early this morning to go to courtenays and half way there the i felt difference in the engine loads of pops and bangs and very jerky and throttle control was terrible... then looked at AFR guage to notice it was at 10.0 :o rediculously rich... so tried to reset the ecu to no avail :(

idle was also 10.0 :( with no error codes?! which i found very very strange

anyway a HUGE bill later and the car is back on my drive :( then vocky popped round to listen to the engine  and it sounds sweet but we took the cam cover off to check the valve springs where still OK of which they where and engine sounds sweet...

so we then come to the conclusion that the exhaust was blowing so if it was blowing before the first lambda sensor then this would be sucking in oxygen and the ecu would be flooding the engine to try and correct the AFR. To be honest i am hoping this is the case

started taking the rear clam off but my manager asked me to do him a favour so have been running round after him but good news is i now have a very happy manager! anyways will crack back on with taking the rear clam off now. just wanted to update this for you all to know what is going on.

I am highly gutted and probably pissed Jon and CMS off as i missed my dyno slot :(

here is a photo of the wounded beast

i will ring Jon monday once i can confirm the problem and rectify it. Then i will pester some people to borrow a trailor and possibly a tow vehicle to see when the next slot is available that i can combine alot of forces and get the car towed to courtenays so that dyno work can be completed so thats that out of the way and then any further issues can be delt at my end saying that i did get AA relay membership :ninja:

Ug. Good luck Joe. Proably something simple, like a sensor not working, though without an ECU code to give you a clue I guess you'll have to start swapping parts in and out till you guess the right one :(

cheers bud, im hoping its a exhaust manifold leak as this would draw in the o2 and give misleading info to lambda 1 making it over fuel but as you say its very anoying that there is no code :angry2: anyway to cheer me up i started dremeling the rear clam today :groupjump:

What a shitter! At least youve got Vockgod on hand to help diagnose...if he can't sort it no one can. Have some Murray mint vodka to cheer yourself up...or think of how bored I will be swimming 200 lengths of a poxy pool!

A lambda related issue will go away normally for some time with an ECU reset no ? How is the car working at idle ? Last one I saw with that kind of weird symptoms had a smallish inlet leak which compromised the vacuum/idle/low throttle situations messing up with the MAP sensor readings.

Does it need to be recalibrated in fresh air? Might be worth trying that, if it's one of those type.
