Got a little letter in the post today from the local traffic office of Würzburg saying I was doing 99 in a 60 :o Bugger my first offence! not sure how it works out here as I still have a UK licence registered at my UK address, dont know if they have to send the licence back to the UK to get my points, I might be lucky and just get a fine ? One of my colleagues printed something off the net for me showing that if I was doing 2 kmh more I would have lost my licence for a month :o Lets just keep my fingers crossed all is ok. John.

i thought only the issuing authority could issue points or take away your licence... The Germans can fine you, or imprison you or do whatever else they want, but they can't take your licence!

I was doing 99 in a 60

kmh or mph?

In Switzerland for 99kmh in a 60 you would have had the licence confiscated on-the-spot and you yourself are not permitted to drive the car one metre further. If you have a passenger who can drive your car, you can at least get home OK. Otherwise it's Shank's pony! :o :o :o

If it was 99mph in a 60mph... well, don't like to think about it... something along the lines of goolies lopped off on-the-spot, then put in local village stocks for a week, then banged up for a year.  :o

Britain and Switzerland are the worst European countries in my experience.

French gave me an on-the-spot fine of about 900Francs for 187kmh in a Range Rover on the motorway (130 limit). Obligatory court appearance avoided by writing crawling apologetic letter to local french court authorities.

Bl**dy Dutch radared me at 107kmh in a100kmh and threatened me via post to Switz. with arrest in any EU country if I didn't pay. Miserable b*stards.

Austrians radared me twice within about 1 kilometre on an country road, took the cash and let me go with no further ado, wishing me happy motoring in Austria.

Traffic police... friends and helpers or modern-day highway robbers?

I know what I think. ;)
