If you can hit all those targets, it will be a no brainer to buy your heater. For my sake, I hope it all works out - I use my my car all year round.

Paul

And for me! I would love to be able to afford something a bit quicker ;) You guys can be safe in the knowledge the profits will be used for a worthy (automotive) cause. I've also just hit that age where the insurance is a good chunk cheaper too!

Adam please offer us something that is a direct replacement for OEM. Works like OEM but much warmer.

The details are interesting but results are very important.

Paul

Hi Paul,

That is exactly what I am aiming to do. Initially the prototypes are to test out the fans and cores & so will look very basic and a bit heath robinson, if they are a success and the people testing the prototypes are happy with the results then I will concentrate on finalising the system to meet the following specification:

  • Install using existing mounting holes.
  • 3 Speed fan operation using original fan control switch.
  • Use existing air inlet to heater box.
  • Incorporate a removable dust filter.
  • Fully sealed box - constructed out of laser cut aluminium panels & powder coated for a quality finish.
  • Include a 2 way water valve to replace flap within original heater box, this is cable operated so will work with original heater panel in interior.
  • Include all hose, fittings, wiring and full instructions to offer an easy to install solution.
Please add to the list if you feel there is anything else I have missed out.

_
I'd like to add:
In summer it will be able to direct cool air into the cabin or at the very least not let warm air in from it. Being hot in the winter is clearly the primary goal but equally for me making sure it doesn't cook me in summer would be very high on my list.

Excelent. Will I be able to drive in winter while wearing my bikini without my niples going like truck wheel nuts?

ive had confirmation that the next prototype will be with me in a few days, the new heater will use the cage type fan that is used on most car heaters. ive got plenty of time off now so will be fitting asap and reporting back. thumbsup it would be nice just to shut the damm thing off for a min!!!

Must be the worst time to test a heater out as well, during a heatwave :groupjump:

Any ideas if this is definitely going to happen as I am holding off doing a complete overhaul of the heating system as I wanted to incorporate this

Not that I like to say this, but I don't want one of these now, sorry. It's taken fair too long for anything to come through, so in Dragons Den style "I'm Out"

Go to say I'm coming to the same conclusion. I must have a working heater for this winter and if it's taken this long to get this far I can't see one actually being delivered before the cold sets in.

I'll give it a little while longer but then I shall be making alternative arangements if nothing happens.

To be honest it seemed a bit unrealistic for them to get from concept, through design/testing and to a mass produced model in the a few months.

I am still very enthusiastic to buy the heater kit. I didn't enjoy last winter in the VX at all - to the point where I have considered selling it before the winter comes around again. Is there any news on progress with this project? Is it likely to be ready before winter sets in?

If the company I work for took over half a year to get a customers requirement to a working saleable proposition we would have been out of business long ago. We make far more complicated devices, for instance machines for testing the efficiency of nuclear power plants on fighting ships. Does not mean it will never happen maybe not... Paul

Insulating the aluminium water pipes that run from engine to heater helps improve things. Not possible to reach the hole length but possible to get enough pipe insulation to make a difference. Need to remove rear OS wheel arch liner and drivers sill cover. Doing the return pipe on passenger side won't help heater performance but may reduce engine warm-up time. These pipes are quite long, made of heat conducting aluminium and are affectively outside the car, so must loose heat before reaching the heater matrix. I am working on a cabin filter box that would take proprietary filter element and fix in front of air inlet points behind front grill. Needs to have a large cross section so as not to restrict airflow. Have fitted a rough and ready prototype and it work perfectly. It's even possible to increase the ram air effect by tuning the opening of the filter box. Will post some pics when I have something more "engineered".

Unfortunately I have to pull out of this as I have purchased a standard vx heater which works and get the csbin warm. Cheers
