This is a shame, i think the stumbling block is getting an enclosure sorted, surely between everyone on here we can come up something? The prototype im trying out has more than enough heat to the point i turn it off after 10 mins! im sure the internals could be shoehorned into an enclosure like the original? Come on guys. chinky chinky

Yeah, I was very encouraged by your reports on the prototype. For a while I thought that everything was going to get sorted and this winter would be warm in the VX.

It's a shame the prototype isn't going into production.

It's no wonder he's lost interest in it when half of the people who've expressed an interest are talking about solutions at circa £100 when the budget probably needs to be more like £300+. As an aside, I found another leakage point in the original heater system before I went on holiday. I discoverd the heater plenum that sits in the dash bulkhead and feeds air into the dash/footwell ducting had a hole in it where it wears through on the ally tub. Thought it might have been isolated to my car but I got a replacement from Eliz and it had exactly the same problem (and she said most of the ones she's seen had the same). A nice blob of JB Weld is currently filling the hole and will hopefully be up to the job going forward. The whole plenum is a sh!tty two piece design and even Lotus had clearly decided to plug the gaps between the two halves with some black gaffer tape on the inlet from the heater box. :beat:

There is absolutely no problem with enclosures. In my job I spend over a million GBP per year on custom enclosures. I can get these made for commercial rates and short lead times. I am pretty sure I offered enclosures to Adam at cost plus postage. All I would need is a good drawing that the supplier was happy with. Best regards, Paul

Moneyhunster, Adam mentioned you in our phone conversation and said you seemed happy, but he was unconvinced you had enough heat bearing in mind you were testing in August.

If you are happy and it works ok can't we just place an order for the heater as is? Maybe he'd then deliver.

That was one of the points he mentioned. He thought it'd be £300, which to be honest I'd happily pay. I'd understand why a summer/weekend user wouldn't though.

Agreed - if the person testing the heater is happy with it, why would it not be put into production? Unless it comes down to cost per unit.. If this was on offer between £2-300 then i'd definitely be buying it, as would a lot of others I think.

In the mean time....get your heated seat pads on order Ahhhhh...warm . It won't help with the PITA foggy windscreen, but for general driver/passenger comfort it really takes the edge off the cold and makes it more bearable, time & effort well invested I think.

See BossVX guide for a walkthrough.

by the way, I'm not selling these, just bought one last year and it does the job well.

I will go on record here: If a proper solution is available for £300 I will DEFINITELY be a buyer.

I'll redraw my wonderful plans for the pikey 'reuse the oem matrix which is MORE than man enough for the job' enclosure. It uses an A3 sheet of GRP/Carbon/kevlar/abs/WTF you want to use  and one round tube (could be drain pipe or made from composite). Should 'cost' about £60 all in with the inline blower fan too.... NO I will not make one :P

What we need to do is test in really cold conditions, like in Switzerland over winter?

I'd be happy to volunteer. Why don't you take it out of your car and post it too me?

To save me reading the whole thread, is the solution to get more heat out of the coolant or more blow from the fan. I've just had a play around with the ducting from cabin to heater and made sure everything was fitting right. Now I've got quite a good air flow from the dash vents far better than it was before I attacked it. But it will be a hopeless waste of time if adequate heat isn't getting to/from the matrix. Also has the installation of an accessible filter placed before the heater/fan box been discussed?

The solution is to get the air routed over the heater matrix properly rather than the current method... I used a weaker fan and the oem matrix with MK1 homebrew soultion and nearly died of heat stroke  on the flip side it did also pull too much heat from the cooling system :s

Its all about fine tuning the balance.
