but I have to buy them in qty's of 50 or more.

Let's see if we can work out some commitment from our side to easen your mind.
Can you make a rough estimate on the unit's selling price, and how much you would need as a prepayment to keep this project going?
That we we can make a quick list of potential buyers.

Next step would be to have the units resold to non .org public via elise-shop.com and eliseparts.com

Also keep the 5000 speedsters in mind (euro version of the vx)
Once you get the hang of it, i'll try to get my hands on a euro version of the heater, and get it your way.

I don't think there is any need to replace the actual radiator, HOWEVER if there is a radiator that is is abundance and roughly the same size then I'd be all for that thumbsup

The main issue as many have covered is the poor costruction of the box and the layout of the air ducts between the box and the vents. There are so many air leaks at least 50% of the power of mine is lost along the way. thumbsdown

I would definately be interested in a replacement if it was circa £100 and not made of sh1tty plastic with massive gaps in. Also as mentioned the position of the air outlet pipe should be changed to allow easy fitting of the air duct whilst in situ. At the moment most of the problem seems to be around that area and getting the pipe snug on the box.

:yeahthat:

When new my heater worked pretty well, gave out decent heat and power was not too bad (but could benefit from being stronger). Five years on my heater is quarter of what it used to be in terms of both heat and strength of blow. I suspect it is all the crap that has got into it that restricts the airflow. I am with Slindborg on the repositioning. Or as long as the filter is easy to get to, to clean.

A direct replacement for sub £100 that goes in very easily would get my vote and cash.

I'd pay sub £100 for one so long as it is a relatively easy fit. OR someone in the Northwest would do it for beer money!

While thinking about this modding of the OEM heater, it struck me that I don't need to convert my RHD project car at all for RHD here. Just use the RHD heater on the opposite side and turn around (for an LHD Speedster) so the intake sucks clean air from the back and the outlet is nicely facing upwards to the dash inlet. Needs some heater hose and control cable fabbing, but that's basically it...

I would be amazed if this came in at under £100. I bough a venair pipe kit from eBay and that was £60 for a couple of bits of alloy and silicon pipework. I'm sure the price will be far north of £100.

I bought a used heater before Christmas for £150 which seems to be the going rate now. Douglas Valley breakers wanted £175 for theirs iirc. New from Vauxhall they are £500+.

I've been in contact with Adam at T7 and he's going to have a look at my vx next Tuesday (11th). I think if we are honest most of us would happily pay more than £100 for a quality solution.

Yeah we will happily pay £290 quid for a fiberglass splitter to look priddy but don't want to pay more than £100 for something that will make the car a lush place to sit in winter!!

If it is a really good solution then count me in - even if it's £200 it will be worth it (for me at least). This winter has been horrible. I don't think my heater is as bad as many VXs but it still seems weak and it's been the only thing that has disappointed me about the car. I will definitely buy if it solves the heater problem and demonstrates a good improvement on stock heater.

My modular heater arrived today, thanks Adam, I will let you all know how it performs, should give us a good indication of what a replacement will be like. I'm still up for a replacement mind, I made the fatal error in letting my missis pop to the post office in mine, 45 mins later she came back smiling! Now I need another vxt :(

my heater is so pants that a dead bee farting would be a better solution.. the temp control is stuck on "hot" hahahaha if that matters anyway, the top speed of the fan is quite frankly shocking and when i change where the air flow goes to (feet or screen) either my feet get cold first or my head... the faster i drive the more cold air comes rushing into the cabin... when i can get some time i'll be ripping it out and modding it, however if there is a viable after-market item being produced then i'm all for that! So once we know the price max 100 for me then i'd be up for that, if not then i'll have a shot at modding it myself  GL with solution thumbsup chinky chinky

Mines a weekend car and my heater isn't that bad. Although I would pay for a better heater if it was less than 100
