I am intending to convert VX220 to a single seat with a central driving position. The rationale is TRACK USE ONLY FAT DRIVER IMPROVE DISTRIBUTION OF MASS issues to be considered DRIVER POSITION The central postion, I prefer more of an incline, I also want a more forward position. Problem is legroom. I will fabricate a cavity box this will allow the pedel to reccess so that my foot will be flush with front bulkhead the box will be in the area that now houses the heater & battery, the heater will be deleted and the battery relocated DASH This will be removed to expose the scuttle beam STEERING Titan are the manufacturers of OE rack. Titan can make a rack to same spec & dims but central position input shaft the steering colunm will be moved along the scuttle beam STEERING WHEEL I have chosen a wheel with the farringdon system which means no stack dash PEDAL POSITION Fit a racing type floor mounted pedal box this will allow split braking using two seperate master cylinder to acheive greater braking bias GEARSHIFT & HANDBRAKE Re-locate mechanism, the cables will be shorter and will run over the top of the gearbox SEAT Which type? I am going for a wider hip option with a wrap around head design SAFETY BELTS Four harness is a minimum but Five or Six is preferred to reduce dive Have I missed anything

I think there was the original Motorsport Elise that had a centre driving position

Might be worth finding one and having a poke around

The other major advantage of centre position is safety for sideways impact.

There's a lot of flex in the floor, not sure whether that would be compatible with floor mounted pedals. Isn't the latest Nitron Exige a centre seater?

I will open up the void area first and see how much usable room there is
I will then decide the best pedal box option with reinforcing if required
I may be able to just move existing pedals lateraly into the centre, not ideal as I really want to move pedals forward

I see no further issues. The OE pedals should move OK or, as you suggest, a floor mounted box would do. I'd have thought as long as you use a good sized spreader plate there will be no issues in moving them. I believe the floor part of the forward box section is hollow section and should be pretty rigid if not you could suspend a pedal box from a plate over the front heater / battery area and make it from whatever you want. My only thought would be how far forward you want to go. It might feel a bit wierd being closer to the screen but I'm sure you'll find a good compromise. Are there any rules to consider about ease of access / exit if you move the seat?

considering most uk circuits are clockwise, you would be better with ballast on the drivers side, ie. not change anything
