Basically tesco said as we chucked the sleeve away and only have the carton they came in there is naff all they can do about it. Guess they get off Scott free this time.

When did you chuck the sleeve away? Just get it out of the bin... they only want it for the manufacturers code to claim a refund from them... They really won't be product recalling the item unless it was in fact a health hazard, which they could only do through an investigation (red bag it... I miss my retail days sometimes)
But they should have investigated the item irrespective of whether they had a packet or not as the health and safety responsibility still stands, and though they won't have the batch number, that item will only come from one (or max 3 suppliers) for which the lass or lad on reception would have access to through the REPOS terminal).
