on one of my early cars (a talbot sunbeam) I think I had 6 split baked bean cans and loads of jubilee clips and exhaust paste patching up the front pipe before I saved up enough to put a new one on.. those were the days

We have been fighting the water for a 1000 years, so we're grown to be good at it. (half the country is below sealevel)
Reminds me of the mess in New Orleans after Huricane Katrina and Rita in 2005.
On august 30 2005, with New Orleans being 80% under water, we offered 3 old mobile pumps to the US to assist.
They said no: we have fine material ourselves and don't need the old stuff.
One week later with US navy's finest doing all they can, 70% of New Orleans was still under water.
We offered them again. Listen; they are old but still quite good. Are you really sure?
Fine they said; bring it over if you keep insisting like that.
On sept 16 we we setup and started pumping.
On Oct 3 New Orleans was dry.
It later turned out that our old pumps had twice the power of the heaviest mobile pump the US navy had available.

And could you ask the mechanic to have a look at the braking system. I think it's a bit noisy.
