There are front and rear engine mounts too. It is usually the side engine mounts failing that causes the in gear acceleration noise.

Of all the engine mount threads I don't think I've ever read that the front and rear needs changing.

So what is this garage actually asking you for?

Highly unlikely (like 99%) that the front or rear mounts will need replacing. Those yellow inserts ChrisS1 linked to are just used to beef up the existing front and/or rear mounts. If the front and rear really do need doing, then you'll need to order in the replacement rubber mounts, part no: 9197990, part 3 in the following diagram.

But, as Slindborg said, sounds like whoever is doing it, doesn't know their arse from their elbow.

I gave them an engine mount that looked like number 8 on your diagram ... it was the supplier who said that's all I need, so i ordered it and gave it to the garage with my car for something else that was been done ... to be fair I left it with reception so no mechanic saw what i had given them

they rang me up yesterday to say they needed the other engine mount .. which has transpired to mean another number 8 so I got back in touch with the supplier

The supplier started quizzing me about specifics which i didn't know the answers to so I just said to send the garage what they think i need - i'm told this is a complete set of front & rear and left & right engine mounts ... it's getting delivered today to the garage

I thought if it turns out i don't need the front and back ones i can send them back ... If I do need them rubber mounts i will defo be up for slapping the supplier

As a matter of interest how much were the front and rear mounts, and what supplier did you use - AutoVaux?

Yea AutoVaux ... paid £98 yesterday for one side engine mount and front & back with next day delivery, then about £40 before i think for the initial side engine mount ... tbf you can't argue with the price (I don't think) just on a bit of a rant ... spent a lot on the VX past 6 weeks and had the car booked in for two weeks waiting to get this done I'll let you have the breakdown of the invoice when i have it to let you specifically know how much the front and rear ones where I have just been looking at the .org site ... i never knew it existed ... how have people found it ?? I hadn't had any dismay with this site - i thought this was a great place to get help and advice - everyone is always more than helpful :groupjump:

Hi Chaps,

Found this thread as I've just had to replace both side engine mounts (after a Walshy day!), and during replacement, we found that the rear mount has perished, and the actual casting it sits in has cracked too. Think it all happened at the same time after a particaulrily spectacular high speed spin/slide/spin/slide!

Any idea what the part number is of part 14 in the above exploded diagram is?

Struggling a little to find a supplier for this one... Asked AutoVaux and EliseParts...waiting the standard 7 day response time! Can't bring myself to go to the local VX dealer - as I really can't cope with them (or their prices!).

Thanks All!
