Next job will be a lightweight boot lid, was amazed at how heavy it was. don't want to take too much weight from the front given the already dubious weight distribution.

Are you going to de-skin the original lid or get one of those weird humpy ones?

Current thinking is to make a mould from the rear support and fit to a CF sheet with a foam core.

I hope so, I actually like the standard VX look so i'm trying to keep it that way. If I can finish the subwoofer enclosure I started months ago (mostly for proof that I can work with fibreglass) then I'll look at getting a boot lid to mould from.

Engine out job but there is good weight go be removed there. Flywheel approx 5kg, balance delete 2-3kg (both of these are rotational so have a much better effect than static weight). Smaller alternator 1-2kg, remove a lot of the fuel tank breather pipework and one of the canisters maybe 0.5kg, coolant tank bracket holes cut (see FLD's thread not the carbon one). Various brackets in and around the engine bay .25kg. Then replace the exhaust and manifold 5+kg. That's got to be half the charger weight gone. Some free some not so free!

Engine's done 85k so I'm resisting any modifications to the engine based on the limited returns from doing it to a high milage engine, will certainly be cutting the cooling tank bracket. Also got a Larini which is basically a pipe so lots of weight saving there

Don't be afraid of rebuilding the engine. If you haven't changed the cam chains yet it is a good excuse to remove the engine and do the other jobs whilst doing this. If you are happy with current power levels it dosnt need to be very expensive. Though I would always recommend rods for a SC engine ( they are also lighter than the originals).

2 kg saving today.

Plastic rocker cover - 2.2 kg,

aluminium rocker cover - 3.6 kg

engine lifting mounts 4 x 200 g

Therefore total loss = 3.6 + 0.8 - 2.2 = 2.2 kg

so far 12.9 kg

I haven't included it up to now as I intend to change it, but I've also got a Larini backbox on which weighs 7 kg compared to the OEM 11.2 kg, so currently saved 17.1 kg total

Quiet car time.

Pipercross Venom VM7000 filter, with larger intake duct to reduce restrictions and silicon reducer rather than rubber.

Pipercross certainly has, don't know about the exhaust yet, but it's got to be quieter than a Larini!

Finished painting?

I've stopped for the winter - it's too cold to spray outdoors and frankly I don't have enough daylight to get it done. New plan is to make a few lightweight CF parts and spray them purple before they go on. First up is the roll bar cover with the head rest cut outs removed and then boot lid.
