What Vibra engine mounts did you go for Tom? Fast road or comp?

How is the experience in the UK with the 3" Tullett manifold and downpipe?

Here in NL we have one Speedster (2.2 Harrop track) with a 3" system, and besides the noise issues he already had to reweld his cracked downpipe section twice....

The orientation of that 3" flexi joint is probably not doing much to absorb engine motions and stresses the system. :glare:

Had to get the end of my flexi welded up as it had cracked, 30 minutes before setting off to Zandvoort last year. Guess it's over 4 years old now but I've never used the first mounting bracket on their advice, after it pulled a chunk out of the pipework on Lee's car on the way back from Le Mans 4 or 5 years back.

That's something to look forward to then.

I'm using fast road mounts. I wanted a more durable mount (and liked the improvement I felt from adding the poly inserts to the front and rear) rather than something that felt solidly linked to the chassis.

I'll report back in a few weeks. Needs a service and repairs to the rear clam before it goes back on the road.

Car is alive!

Idle is pretty lumpy but should be able to control that a bit by increasing idle speed.

Charge cooling system still needs plugging in, other than that I just need an MOT.

I love the way this thread evolved from:

"Hello my name is Tom. I'm going to document how to make the VX a bit easier to live with. First, I changed the windscreen wiper, then I demisted the lights...."

to

"...supercharged, 3 inch exhaust and painting it purple..."

:D

Chargecooler pump hard mounted:

Wasn't particularly happy with to leave the charge cooler pump hanging off pipework, especially the larger flow Bosch unit. Chassis rails have been drilled and fitted with aluminium rivnuts (key to prevent corrosion), rubber isolation mounts separate the bracket from the chassis.

Exhaust heat shielding re purposed. Aluminium spacers should prevent too much heat soak into the subframe, while nylon washers limit any galvanic corrosion between the spacer and subframe. The rest of the shielding has been cut away so exhaust access is easier.

Fecking car. MOT booked for tomorrow and won't start, I've got the relays in rice and battery in charge. Also going to inspect the wiring behind the relay mounts, hopefully one of those will be the cure. Also need to make the washer fluid spray and locate the boot catch.

[quote data-cid='1150624' name='fezzasus' timestamp='1298813020' post='1150624']Introduction

VW relay - Part code "357-955-531" or typically with a number 99 printed on the top. Approx £11 from ebay. Allows programable interval wiping by lifting the stalk onto interval, bringing it back down after the wipe, then back up and keeping it on interval. The gap between the two wipes is now the interval. Again, really recommended for day to day driving - reduces the number of distractions and a cheap mod. The relay is located at the top of the passenger footwell and can be identified [only two there] by feeling for a click while the wipers are set to interval. A flat bladed screw driver [with keys out of the ignition!] helps to remove it.

Just found this thread, this sounds really handy, I'll put it on my list.

Running on borrowed relays. Mine are a mixture of missing or not working.

However it failed it's MOT as it needed a front numberplate (couldn't find it, but I thought it would be worth going for the MOT as the retest is simple) and the engine couldn't maintain temperature - essentially I ran out of time to bleed the system properly.

Should all be addressed by the retest on Saturday.
