A little job I did over the weekend was to modify the roll bar cover and head rest arrangement. I did not want to take the risk of completly cutting out the metal blades as some have done so I just cut back the covers and upholstered them. I then Smoothed over the rollbar holes and covered the whole top area with some fluffy sticky backed material to give a sort of flocked effect. I did consider covering in a silver vinyl or spraying it body coloured but I felt that the inside roof area was nicer all tied in in black and the touchy feely material adds a little more quality.

Now onto the bit alot probably won't be so keen on. I fitted these little LED spot lights and wired them to a remote key fob controlled box. You can also turn them on and off via a switch I mounted above the cup holder.

Main purposes are to be able to see what your doing in the car when parked up or lighting up the cabin from afar to help spot the car.

These things are bright! Not only do they provide a completly flood lit interior but they also project a beam through the windscreen lighting up the ground and acting as puddle lights to help see where your stepping when walking up to the car.

Like the idea of remote interior lights, is there any way they could be linked to the oem central locking, so would come on automatically when unlocking the car? And would then automatically switch off with the ignition?

Not sure, no doubt it is doable if you really wanted it that way. I did consider that but you have to be more or less on top of the car for the central locking to work anyway. (at least I do even with fresh batteries) You could possibly use a contact switch in conjunction with the door pin actuators. Then either have it time out on it's own or isolated by turning the key to ACC.

I thought it bared more than a passing resemblance to a lamping truck with the roof off to. :D

You need the roof on to diffuse the light really, if I was to drive like that I would probably burn the retinas out of the eyes of oncoming traffic. You can't look directly at them without having a yellow spec in your vision for a few minutes after.

Like many on here I think the rear view mirror is needlessly over sized so I have started on making a much smaller one out of carbon fibre.

I bought one of those crappy suction mirrors from my local Wilkinsons for £2.99, mainly for the glass mirror. I then used the casing from it as a template and sanded a block of foam to a nice shape to act as a mould to lay the CF onto. I dismantled the OEM mirror in order to get the ball joint cup out of it, I then dremeled it down abit ready to mould into my new mirror. Retaining this means that I will still be able to make use of the original windscreen fixing.

So far got to this stage. When dry just need to sand to shape a bit, smooth off and lacquer / polish.

All your work is amazing! Really top quality stuff! When making CF parts do you use the resin infusion method or do you wet lay and vac bag? Are there advantages / disadvantages of each method? Also, I'm assuming that using the semi pre-preg carbon fibre helps with getting a nice finish. Sorry about all the questions but I've been planning on having a little play with CF and am looking at getting one of the kits from carbonmods.co.uk As ever, keep up the good work! R

Bloody lists

I may do a couple more if I can get the mould out intact but won't have any more ball sockets to use so would have to source some more or think of an alternative mounting method.

This will be (for me at least) a very cost effective mod. Couldn't believe the cost of the Eliseparts micro mirror etc and to buy a real CF mirror from elsewhere your looking at at least 3 figure prices. :o I reckon mine will have effectively cost me around £5-6 and about 2 hours of my time. :)

As with alot of things if I was to produce a few more it would be the effort and time involved that would push the cost up.

Depends on the degree of accuracy needed for the parts really. Everything I have done so far has involved either simply skinning or working with an original part so I have just reverse moulded off of that and then layed the cloth inside. I am still only a real amatuer when it comes to working with CF so your best off asking someone like FLD or Johnnyboy who no doubt have a much better idea of the right techniques. The way I have done things although I have still reached fair results are probably far less productive than what they could have been.

Tbh Dab, I'm a bit reluctant to start another of these lists for the benefit of the .org community as I still haven't received my flip out key fob thingy from the last list

So I have never felt the need for them and never thought I would fit them but even so for the sake of about £13 and something to do I fitted some parking sensors over the weekend. There was no way I was going to ruin the clean lines of the clam and have them mounted in the optimal positions in the 'bumper'. Also I do not like the look of the Meta type systems that are on a number plate frame so I went for this semi stealth approach and drilled them flush into the number plate. This way the holes in the clam are completly hidden and the whole install is as neat and as unobtrusive as possible.

Posted Image

The control box and wiring mounted neatly hidden behind the boot carpet.
The bleeper is currently stuck to the rear window in the engine bay. I can hear it fine from there but may try and route it into the cabin.

Posted Image

Obviously they don't reflect the camera flash so stick out more here. I re-sprayed them a better yellow than what they came like before fitting but I think I may re-do them again if I can find an even better match.

Brilliant job. Keep up the good work. Modding is all about trying something different. I am interested in the CF mirrors. May have to try and do what you are doing. You got time to do a guide?

Hi Dab,

Those ultrasonic sensors look far better than I would have imagined plate mounted...have you got a daylight rear picture to see what they look like from a distance?

Apart from keeping you busy for a few hours planning and modding, do you find them useful?

The reason I ask is because I fitted a Parking Dynamics http://www.parkingdynamics.co.uk/ rear kit to the Mrs's Scirocco because I didn't want to dril the bumper out. Unfortunately although it sounds a good system on paper,in reality it's prety unreliable, so defeats the object of having something you can have faith in.

Recently I've been looking at a Veba number plate mounted kit http://www.amazon.co..._sim_sbs_auto_1 which I may even get for the VX if it works/looks OK on the Scirocco.

I've cut my rear plate down to minmum size, so don't have any space left at the sides to replicate the way you've done it, but it looks really well executed.

Keep up the mod work thumbsup

I'll be putting together a detailed guide as to how I went about making it in the next day or so. :)
