Fri 8th April

A large section of my cup holder had been broken off near the corner where the seat hits and was looking a bit scruffy so I glued on a new section to repair it and then covered in alcantara.

De-bonding and seperating the different sections was a PITA but at least they came apart quite cleanly and more importantly intact.

Finished, looks way better than before and should be more hard wearing.

Everything came back together today so I think most of the dash is complete for now.

I still need to get the TPMS sensors fitted in the wheels, I will probably wait until I get my exhaust fitted for that.

New flush start button is on a timed fade out illumination with the courtesy lights -

Posted Image

I still need to find a way of mounting the boost gauge. I was thinking of a pillar pod but would not know which to go for to ensure a good fit and I think it may look a bit cramped and odd anyway. I think I am favouring just a simple stand for it on top and in the middle of the screen.

I used part of the old start button to act as a hole finisher / grommet for the cable to exit into.

The only bit of my interior that is now left untidy are the wires exiting here. I have routed several wires in preperation for my next mod which will be a custom center console install. Wires are -

1 purple for oil pressure sensor
1 grey for oil temp sensor
1 red ignition switched live
2 black 12v ground
2 orange ABS switch
The rest of the bundle is to feed two timed fade out interior footwell lights.

Initially I was a bit unsure of the red speedo cluster but now its against the dark grey dash I love it and it's one of my favourite bits.

The only way to route the OBDII cable from under the passengers footwell to the driver top side dash was though an existing rubber grommet protecting the cars main wiring loom. This was a very tight and ackward fit to pass the connector through. To make it easier I had to prise the screen back out of the dash, annoyingly now although it is still very tight it does not seem to be sat quite as well as it was before and I don't really want to keep removing it sos I think it will have to do for now at least.

I am slightly dissapointed with the viewing angle it's easy enough to see when driving it's just that the sun tends to glare onto it a bit making it hard to make out. Hopefully this will just be due to the great sunshine we have had today and will certainly not be a problem when it's darker.

Had a little 0-60 run test, not too bad a result considering it was a slightly uphill uneven bending road and I was not side stepping the clutch too brutally.

Note it is 0-62 not 60 so pretty much bang on the manufacturers claimed 4.7 especially if I re-did it in ideal conditions.

Wow, great work on the interior. That screen looks amazing as well. I want one! What spray glue did you use for the alcantara and where did you buy it from? I have to redo mine as the heat as unstuck a lot of it :angry2:

I did buy a big can of evo stic time bond paint on adhesive to put on both surfaces but did not end up using it purely because I could not be arsed with the extra hassle involved, hopefully it's a decision I will not live to regret. I actually ended up using a can of 'kwik grip' heavy duty high impact spray adhesive but I have also pulled it taught with a staple gun aswell so hopefully the two combined will stand up to the suns heat, time will tell I guess...

If I do have to ever re-do it I have enough fabric left and I will change a few bits at the same time.

Cheers for the info. I think I'm going to use 3M 90 but it seems to be hard to source. I'm hoping some will pop up on ebay soon.

Now that it's dark I have just been outside and taken these. I'm really pleased with the heater dial illumination, it's the first time I have seen them lit and you could not see any difference in the day time and I thought I had wasted my time but now their spot on. So it was worth the PITA drilling after all. :D

Use a stapler as well it makes streching the edges over so much easier and takes some load of the glue. I used an effortless electric nail gun that takes them but you could allways just get a hand one for around a fiver. I assume you are upholstering on top of the OEM rubber finish, if so just use those staple locations as guidance points. thumbsup

Got one of these from Halfrauds for my boost gauge. Cheap as chips but quite solid and could probably be jazzed up a bit with alcathingybob thumbsup

Thanks for the link, that is exactly what I was just looking at for a few quid less on ebay. Think I might get it from Halfrauds though so I can see it before I buy, I want it with as small a footprint as possible and not too high. I would leave it black to match the vents. Where do the wires exit through the bottom or back?

Small hole in the bottom but you can easily drill one in the back if needed thumbsup

I'm talking dash plate and door cards so these items can't be stapled. It's only peeled in the places where I've stretched the Alcantara and then stuck it.

I decided against the Halfords one after seeing it, I did not like the stand and it seemed really cheap and flimsy and far from good value at 8 quid.
I got one from the autodials website which came with loads of different brackets for mounting in various positions. After adapting the stand slightly I have it secured down quite nicely and am pretty happy as it has the small 'footprint' I was after.

I did initially have the idea of modifying a swivle light fitting, it was nearly the perfect size and could of looked good painted black.

Also yesterday I had a new Larini exhaust fitted. It took me a while to decide to go for this over the various other makes but I think I am happy with the decision. I will wait to give my final verdict until it is properly run in and coked up as I know when I first had a Borla exhaust fitted in the past I was initially a bit dissapointed but then grew to love it as the sound improved over time.

It was a bit of a pain to fit but we managed to get the old box out without having to remove the clam.
