I was debating doing something similar, but not sure if I wanted to use the standard mirrors or not as I know they may be a pain to accomodate wiring.

That was my plan when I get the now redundant originals off, mould in an indicator and also cut an aero hole thingie in the mounting plinths similar to the elise ones. You should be able to run 2 wires through easilly enough. (mine have 3 to run as optional side markers) If I get LED indicators I will make use of the gold resistors and either house them behind the glass or they can be mounted out of the way on the inside of the clam, or they won't be needed atall if I can find a pair of nice conventional lenses. Once done I will probably just flog them on to recoup the cost of this mod.

They are made by E-Tech Engineering and are the 'Speed Aero F2' model you can get them with or without indicators and also in plain black or silver / chrome. Got them from Demon Tweeks here

Poor thing. When i win the lottery, my first act of philanthropy will be to buy all the VXs which are being ill-treated.

Leave the halfords rubbish, at halfords (or demon tweeks, same category)

PS: alright. If i win the lottery :P

Hint: Be wary of advertising that you have an ABS cut out switch if you don't declare it to the insurers...

:yeahthat:

My thoughts exactly as soon as I saw the switch. Make sure you've declared any such mods to your insurer (wheels, suspension etc etc,) as the last thing you'd want after all your hard work is for you to find that in the event of a prang (god forbid), your insurance is invalid.

Some of the add-ons are not what I would choose to do myself, but in DoO's defence I saw this at the weekend and it all looks very nicely done. Certainly a lot of thought and skill has gone into it and not just a drive-through halfords job.

It's not that bad, just because there are things that look remotely technical. Some things I would just never use like that screen thing, but nonetheless it's alright.

Hard to weigh them accuratly but pretty sure they are under 350g each including the metal arms and base plates.

JG my car is not being 'ill-treated' at all quite the opposite in fact it's my pride in joy as is yours to you I'm sure. I don't mind you not liking my car and welcome opinionated comments good and bad as long as they are constructive. However all of your contributions to my thread have been derogatory and have offered nothing. If I was to post my thoughts on a particular mod you had done that was not to my taste I would choose to phrase it a bit more eloquently, one in an attempt to not possibly cause offence and two to not risk making myself look like an arse. thumbsup My mother allways used to say 'If you haven't got anything nice to say don't say anything at all' with that in mind could you please refrain from posting in my thread in future unless you can put accross your critisms or praises in a nicer manner.

Personally I think Fred666's and a few other peoples cars are more what could be described as you would put it 'Halfords' or MaxPower-ish but I still like or at least respect them as they are unique and their owners have spent alot of time and effort in getting them the way THEY like them. The world would be a very boring place if we all drove identical cars and liked the same things.

Uhohh Name dropping  I've had my fair share of abuse regarding how ive modified my VX, I certainly wouldnt call it max power/halfords myself but hey ho... It hasnt stopped a single thing ive done so i wouldnt get drawn into letting comments/digs bother you. As said - you do what you want, and you seem to do it well. Life's to short to have rules regarding how a car is modified/treated. Advise and constructive criticism can be taken on board, petty digs should go ignored. I do however think you can add to much to a vx, but you seem to finish each modification nicely and quite profesionally. Its your name on the logbook fella, go wild chinky chinky

No Problem, I shan't post again after this :). If you only want people that like what you are doing to post in here, thats fine with me. It does raise the question of why you would post on an open forum though? Then again, if this is a 'DoO appreciation thread' i've no real contribution to make.

My mother allways used to say 'If you haven't got anything nice to say don't say anything at all'

I'd usually agree, and you've had a lot of praise in your thread for what you have done. A forum by definition will have contributions from many different people and their taste. I felt this thread needed a bit of balance. Forums gain reputation by what they praise and what they critisize. My feeling in my post was that the risk of sounding slightly facetious was worth the balance of opinion.

you can put accross your critisms or praises in a nicer manner.

I don't like what you're doing to your VX, I'm not too sure how else i can put it. I don't like all the LEDs, I don't like the carbon wraps, I don't like use of ply wood or cheap looking carpet, I don't like the gauges, I lke the center console even less. I don't like the look of your wiring, I don't like the mirrors, I don't like the fact that you keep plastering more stuff onto it. I thought I was fairly constructive in my post half a dosen pages back, when i said that you had probably reached the critical mass of what you can bolt onto the car. In the end, it just doesn't feel like the car was designed for what you are doing to it. This is of course a very personal view (hence the rather large use of Is), one where I welcome being told I'm wrong. You clearly love the car, that, I can appreciate, but unfortunately thats it.

The world would be a very boring place if we all drove identical cars and liked the same things.

Oh, i completely agree, though I contend that silencing criticism makes for an equally boring world.

Never, I'll always fight (and have been doing so for some time) for as little moderation on this site as is possible. You only need to ask the other Mods. :)

Some people on this site are way too sad and full of themselves. TBH theres nothing wrong with his car at all, some of the things like the switches arnt my taste but only because i want no silver/chrome inside the car. I think this car is lovely and i rarely like silver cars. IMO stripes down the middle of the car looks more halfords to me than anything else

Each VX is indivual, that's what makes them such a special car. Not everyone is going to like everyone else's VX, but they are all good in their own way. thumbsup

Personally I think it would be a pity if mud slinging were to silence what has been, regardless of whether you love it or hate it, a very interesting thread. So how about an update?! I think the workmanship and results you have achieved are stunning. Congratulations. I probably wouldn't have done the centre section, but would love to see it in the flesh. Surprised that the switches seem to be drawing criticism, I think they look amazing! Far better than the cheap looking OEM ones. I tend to find that I really like al the gadgetry, ingenuity to fitting it all, and the general look of a car that has hundreds of switches and gauges, because anything complicated and technical I find really interesting. That said I also love the sparse, raw feel of the VX cabin. I couldn't say which is better, but I like both.
